The Boomerang Effect: Why This Talented CPA Returned to BPS

Feb 10

I recently had the pleasure of meeting and writing a press release announcing that Monica Gaddis, an experienced certified public accountant, had joined Columbia, S.C.-based CPA firm Bauknight Pietras & Stormer. During our interview, she revealed she had previously worked for BPS some 15 years ago and had regretted leaving. When the opportunity presented itself to rejoin BPS, she did a “boomerang” and came back to her previous employer, this time as a tax manager.

The reason? She appreciated BPS’s culture, which creates plenty of opportunities for growth, particularly for younger professionals just launching their careers. And that’s something Monica was excited about wrapping her arms around. In addition to advising clients on tax matters, she loves mentoring and managing younger team members. It’s a very important role in a firm like BPS that is growing quickly and must insure everyone pulls together so its clients enjoy consistent, high quality accounting and tax consulting services.

Here’s Monica’s press release:

Just in Time for Tax Season, BPS CPAs Adds Monica Gaddis as Tax Manager

COLUMBIA, S.C. (February 10 2020) – Bauknight Pietras & Stormer, P.A., (BPS) is pleased to announce that Monica Gaddis, CPA, has joined the firm as tax manager. Gaddis has more than two decades of experience consulting with clients on tax issues and strategies, preparing returns and staff development.

Gaddis’ hiring is a homecoming of sorts. She previously worked with BPS from 1999-2004. Prior to rejoining BPS in early January, Gaddis worked with several other accounting firms in the area, building a strong professional network across South Carolina’s Midlands.

Russell Bauknight, managing shareholder of BPS, says Gaddis’ return could not have happened at a better time. “Tax season is ‘crunch time’ for BPS so having a CPA with Monica’s deep and varied experience as a tax consultant and preparer who can hit the ground running is a significant win for us. Over the last ten years of her career, she has also focused on developing and mentoring younger tax staff members. BPS has doubled in size in recent years and we have many team members who will benefit personally and professionally from more mentoring. Monica is truly a great hire for our team and our clients.”

Gaddis has focused her career as a trusted tax advisor to closely held companies and individuals in a wide range of industries. Her expertise lies in creating individualized, proactive tax strategies to support company growth and enhance income.

A native of Latta, S.C., Gaddis earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from Francis Marion University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA). Gaddis is also a past president of the Rotary Club of Five Points in Columbia and a Dale Carnegie graduate.
