Free-Range Writer, Wannabe Cowgirl, Collector, Animal-Loving House Flipper

This is me, Melanie, the Lux behind Lux Writes.

My talent for writing came early, fueled by an insatiable appetite for books and a taskmaster of a sophomore year English teacher. My first official role was copy editor of my high school’s yearbook. During college I was a reporter for the San Antonio Express-News. There I discovered the secret to exceptional writing: listening.

Fast-forward to 1994 when I founded a full-service marketing and PR firm with employees, office, Fortune 500 clients—the whole nine yards. In 2010, I rebranded as Lux Writes and became a digital nomad and early adopter of remote work, focusing on B2B writing and brand consulting. I expanded into fractional marketing director roles. One assignment involved re-branding a startup to position for exit, which we achieved 15 months later when the largest agriculture equipment company in the world acquired my client.

I love diving into new industries. Well-written and concepted communications are powerful. I am grateful to all of the clients who have trusted me to help launch companies and products, celebrate entrepreneurs through insightful profiles, power the world with renewables, introduce new technologies, save the planet, and change lives for the better.

Ask me about my favorite projects.

I have a passion for the American West and a collection of art and cowboy boots. Some of my best friends are dogs. And horses. I love to reimagine and flip houses and have been known to make a buck or two, even when it took selling an old Navajo rug to pay the final contractor. Hey, you do what you have to do to get a project over the line.

That’s my story. What’s yours?
